Jan – Feb - Winter's still here!
Finish pruning fruit trees, removing badly placed branches, damaged or diseased branches.
Time to plant fruit trees and bushes – choose disease resistant varieties where possible, continue planting – trees, shrubs, hedging and roses.
Perfect time to move shrubs that have out grown or do not fit in their planting schemes in this dormant season.
Trim back winter flowering heathers as soon as flowers start to fade.
Mar – April – Hello springtime !!!!!
During dry spells be sure to water newly planted trees and shrubs, continue until plants are established.
On many shrubs the previous seasons growth should be pruned back close to it’s base to approximately an inch.
The colourful stems of willows and dogwoods, which have brightened up your winter garden, need to be pruned to encourage a flush off new shoots.
With new growth starting and weather improving (!!!) Give decorative clipped hedges conifers and topiary the first clip of the year.
